Osimert is an osimertinib 80 mg tablet manufactured by Everest Pharma and supplied in a pack of 30 tablets. Osimertinib is a prescription-only targeted cancer medicine used for certain EGFR mutation-positive non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC). It should be used only as directed by an oncologist.

About osimertinib

Osimertinib belongs to a group of medicines called EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking an abnormal EGFR protein that helps some lung cancer cells grow. Because it only suits tumours with specific EGFR changes, doctors confirm the mutation with a test before prescribing it. For a full overview of the drug, see our Osimertinib guide.

What Osimert is used for

Based on the official osimertinib labelling, the medicine is used in adults with EGFR mutation-positive NSCLC, in these situations:

  • As treatment after surgery to remove early-stage tumours (adjuvant treatment)
  • As first treatment for locally advanced or metastatic disease
  • Together with pemetrexed and platinum-based chemotherapy
  • After platinum-based chemoradiation for tumours that cannot be removed by surgery
  • When disease has progressed after earlier EGFR-targeted therapy and the T790M mutation is present

Your oncologist decides whether this medicine is right for you.

How Osimert is taken

The labelled dose of osimertinib is one 80 mg tablet once a day, with or without food. The length of treatment is set by your doctor. Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine unless your oncologist tells you to. At one tablet a day, a pack of 30 tablets covers about 30 days.

Important safety information

This is not a complete list. Always read the leaflet in your pack and talk to your doctor.

  • Seek medical help straight away if you develop new or worsening cough, breathlessness or fever. Osimertinib can cause serious inflammation of the lungs.
  • Tell your doctor about any heart problems, eye symptoms, or severe skin reactions.
  • Common side effects include diarrhoea, rash, dry skin, nail changes, mouth sores and tiredness.
  • Medicine interactions: some medicines, such as rifampicin, carbamazepine and phenytoin, and the herbal product St John’s wort, can reduce how well osimertinib works. Tell your doctor about everything you take.
  • Pregnancy: osimertinib is not advised in pregnancy unless clearly needed. Ask your doctor about contraception during and after treatment.
